Welcome to the homepage of the International Piano Amateur Competition IPAC in Berlin!

Life is full of music and playing the piano is the most beautiful part of it. This was the inspiring idea of the first international piano amateur competition in Berlin in 2006. In September 2008 outstanding piano amateurs have met again in the Berlin Philharmonic Building to make music together and to compete. The next competition is planned for October 2010.

The competition itself forms the core this piano festival. Equally important, however, are the other public performances each contestant will make - during master classes with members of the jury, at piano marathon sessions, at chamber music sessions with other keen amateurs and professional musicians as well as at piano duet sessions. Reaching the final and winning should not be the highest goal – no one will embark on a solo career following this competition! – but rather the sheer joy and pleasure of playing the piano together with others.

Our special thanks go to Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker for enabling us to make music in the Berlin Philharmonic.

We welcome all music lovers to browse through our pages and to contribute to the success of the competition – wether as members of the audience, critics, sponsors or volunteers!

We look forward to welcoming you in Berlin.

Your
Eberhard Zagrosek and the IPAC-Team
